Did you know?

…a bottle of specialty formula can cost upwards of $32 per container?

….that a monthly supply of regular formula and diapers can cost $280 per month?

Now imagine… you have twins or triplets…and they are on specialty formula…and you have lost your job…or are facing a medical condition with mounting medical bills…you make enough income to be ineligible for WIC and other government programs, but make too little to make ends meet…

Our Mission

The Project Ezrah Baby Gemach assists families in Bergen County, NJ, by fundraising to purchase formula and diapers for families that are in need of financial help, and by distributing free baby equipment and clothing for babies through toddlers. We confidentially match donors and recipients of used baby equipment to assist those who need help right here in our community. We save individuals significant amounts of money, but more importantly, we relieve the stress of a parent who at the happy time of a birth deserves to feel good about providing the best for their child.

Who do we help?

Parents and guardians who are facing financial concerns who live in Bergen County. If you feel that getting help with diapers, formula, clothing or baby equipment can make a difference to you please reach out! Click here to join our recipient email list. Please email Tamar Chaitovsky at [email protected] and let us know what size and gender clothing you have for donation. Please only donate clothing that is in like-new condition, and not older than 5 years old. No rips, stains or tears. Please realize we need to maintain high quality standards so that those coming to us have a sense of high self-esteem when receiving beautiful clothing.

To Donate Breastfeeding Items (Breast Pump, Modesty Cover, Nursing Pillow, or other related items):

To Donate Formula

Sealed, unexpired containers of formula are always welcome. Please contact our Formula Coordinator, Deborah Pearlman, at [email protected] for a drop-off location in Teaneck.

To Donate Diapers

We accept unused disposable diapers, loose or in package. We just ask that you label the size of the diapers if it’s not obviously marked on the diaper themselves. Please email us at DiaperGemach@ezrah.org for drop-off information.

To Donate Equipment, Toys & Other Items:

Stacy Horowitz is the Baby Equipment Coordinator. She can be emailed at BabyGemachEquipment@Ezrah.org with a list of the items that you would like to donate, and pictures are preferred. There are some items we cannot accept (i.e. diaper genies, stuffed animals, shoes, drop side cribs, walkers)

We operate on a “request” basis, so if someone requests an item you are donating, we can accept it and will coordinate the donation exchange. Unfortunately, due to lack of storage space, we cannot store donations.

Guidelines for Giving

We are often asked what we can use, and what we can’t. We pride ourselves on high quality standards, and believe this is critical to preserving self esteem when parents are going through a difficult time.
We accept new or gently used clothing, from preemie to size 5T (toddler). No rips or stains, please. If you would not feel comfortable putting a bow on it and gifting it, it would not be appropriate.

The most appreciated toys are play tables (i.e. Leapfrog), plastic oversized block sets (i.e. MegaBlocks), Fisher Price large play sets (Laugh and Play kitchen, tool bench, etc.), walking toys with wheels (but no walkers because they present a stair hazard), Vtech, Leapfrog, and other electronic toys, and Little People items. These items are all easy to clean. Playground equipment is also appreciated.  Large ticket items that cost more than $30 each are a luxury for our families.

Not appreciated: vintage wooden toys, painted items, and items with cracks or tears as they may present a hazard to small children. Toy sets that have many small parts that are choking hazards to those under 3 years old are not appropriate, and many need someone to explain how the many pieces even work. NO STUFFED ANIMALS please (allergen issue).

No personalized items. No “Michael” wants a toy labeled “Daniel.”

No knapsacks, please.

We accept swings, exersaucers, bouncy seats, bouncers, high chairs, carriages, and other equipment in good working condition. Must be less than 5 years old. Items must be cleaned prior to donation. No Diaper Genies.

For safety reasons, we cannot accept car seats that are older than 5 years old. Most car seats will have a date of manufacture included on the frame of the item.

We accept cribs, pack n’ plays, portacribs, and bassinets. No drop side cribs will be accepted because their sale/donation is banned in the US due to safety issues.

We accept all formula brands except for Gerber GoodStart, as it is not certified kosher. Factory sealed cans only, please. Closed jars and containers of baby food, with certified kosher symbols on them, are appreciated.

If it is not obvious on the diaper itself or the packaging, please label the size of the diapers you are donating.

Ask us if there is anything else you had in mind! Thanks for thinking of us!

Our Founder

Rachel Fleisher was inspired to start the Teaneck Baby Gemach in 2008 in memory of her mother, Mrs. Ruthie Stefansky of blessed memory, whose entire life was dedicated to the service of others. Mrs. Stefansky took every opportunity to help make people’s lives happier and more fulfilling. She would do anything just to make the next person’s burden just a little bit easier.

We endeavour to continue to embody Mrs. Stefansky’s selfless spirit and carry on this critical mission which fulfills a great need in our community.
